Experts have hope for an Alzheimer’s drug to be developed by 2025
Experts believe that some form of a new Alzheimer’s drug will be developed by 2025, despite negative results of recent Alzheimer’s disease clinical trials. Leading scientists believe there is still great hope for novel therapies in the relative short term, most likely pilot versions that will need to be upgraded.

Dementia Language Guidelines

Developed by Alzheimer’s Australia, this hand-out sets forth appropriate language guidelines for talking about dementia, including language for talking about:
People with dementia
  • Carers, families, etc.
  • People with dementia under 65
  • Behavioural and psychological symptom of dementia
  • People with dementia in research
  • The hand-out also provides a handy chart listing preferred terms, and terms that should not be used.

Holiday Closure Reminder

South Vancouver and Beulah Adult Day Programs will be closed December 26th, 27th, 28th, 29th, 30th, 2016 and Monday January 2nd, 2017 during the holiday season.

Both Adult Day Programs will re-open and resume service on Tuesday January 3rd, 2017.

Aging Well - Free Workshop

Planning for Aging Well Workshop: South Vancouver

@ Room #117, Sunset Community Centre 6810 Main St, Vancouver Jan. 4th 4:30pm - 8:30pm FREE

This is a free workshop with a light dinner provided, presented by BC Healthy Communities Society (BCHC) in collaboration with South Vancouver Neighbourhood House. This initiative is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
About the Workshop:
Do you have a vision of what your later years will look like? Perhaps you see yourself travelling, playing with grandchildren or simply enjoying a happy, healthy life in your community. What do you need to do now to achieve your goals later?
Making plans and decisions today will help you better prepare for tomorrow so you can achieve your goals in your lifelong journey. This interactive workshop will prompt you to think about your future well-being in topic areas such as your health, finances, housing, transportation and social connections to help you make the most of later life.
Hard copy resources to help you plan your aging journey as well as local information about available services and supports will be provided at the event.
Who Should Participate?
Adults of all ages, caregivers and people who work with older adults are invited to participate in this engaging dialogue.
If you are interested in:
  • Developing a plan to help you have a healthy, happy aging journey; 
  • Learning about resources and information to help actualize your plans; and
  • Connecting with new people in your community

Jingle Bell Walk & Run

Warming Up for the Jingle Bell!

The community is coming together to make this last year of the Jingle Bell Walk & Run a memorable one, and all it needs now is YOU!  Everyone is welcome at this easy, flat, non-competitive and holiday-themed 2.5 or 5km event, and dressing up adds to the experience!  No costume?  No problem!  An ugly holiday sweater will do!
