Getting to Know Dementia
This introductory session is for people who are experiencing early symptoms of dementia, as well as family members or friends who are supporting a person with a recent diagnosis. We will review basic information about Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias and the impact of receiving a diagnosis. Participants will also learn about different types of support available including services offered by the Alzheimer Society of B.C.

Your Voice Matters – Advocacy
When we need support, it helps if we have an understanding of how to speak up and ask for what we need in the most effective way. In this workshop, participants will learn how to become more successful advocates for themselves and the person they are caring for, with a particular focus on residential care advocacy.

Accessing Services
This session is for family caregivers who are currently supporting a person with dementia who is living at home. It will review strategies for accessing support from a variety of sources in your community – from getting help from family and friends, to navigating the formal health care system. The session will also consider some of the challenges that can arise when making the decision to access services and support, and offers strategies for working with service providers and acting as an advocate.
