Information Sessions

Here are three information sessions that may be of interest to caregivers:

Shaping the Journey: living with dementia®
A four-session education series for people with early symptoms of dementia and their care partners to explore the journey ahead in a positive, informative and supportive environment. Participants will learn about dementia, explore strategies for coping with changes and maximizing quality of life, review information on planning for the future, and meet others who are going through similar experiences.


4 Thursdays, November 19 to December 10, 1:00  – 3:30 p.m. – Prior to registering, please contact Sara Wagner 604-675-5155.


Understanding Dementia
Caregivers will receive basic information about dementia and the impact this disease has on the individual, caregivers and families. Through an exploration of how dementia affects the brain and behaviour across the progression of the disease, caregivers will learn what to expect throughout the journey with dementia.


Tuesday, November 24, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m., West End Community Centre, 870 Denman Street

Please register early, as programs with insufficient registrants are cancelled.


Family Caregiver Series 
For family members or friends who are currently supporting a person with dementia.  The sessions will cover: Understanding Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, effective and creative strategies for communication, problem solving responsive behaviours, personal planning, navigating the health care system and self-care for the caregiver.


3 Tuesdays, November 17, 24 and December 1st, 10:30 to 12:30 p.m.  VPL branch at Hillcrest Community Centre
