Healthy living, healthy brain!
Healthy lifestyle choices can help quality of life and brain health too! With the weather turning nicer, there are plenty of opportunities to get outside, take in the natural beauty and have lots of fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables. In this issue, we'll share some ideas about how you can learn about brain health and support the Alzheimer Society of B.C. It's never too late, or too soon to make changes that will maintain or improve your brain health. Making positive changes may help reduce your risk of developing Alzheimer's disease or other dementias. Learn more about what you can do to keep your brain healthy.

Upcoming tele-workshops

The Alzheimer Society of B.C.'s free one-hour tele-workshops allow you to participate from home, wherever you are in the province. Workshops include a live web video of the presentation, making it easy for you to follow along on your computer while you listen on the phone. You will also have the option of downloading handouts after the session. Upcoming tele-workshops include:

Heads Up: An Introduction to Brain Health
July 7, 2 p.m. or 7 p.m. PST

Please choose the time that is most convenient for you.

Healthy aging is important for everyone, and it is essential not to forget the health of your brain as well! This workshop will help you learn strategies and set goals for improving the health of your mind, body and spirit. Anyone interested in brain health is welcome.


Activities to Do with the Person with Dementia
August 3, 2 p.m. or 7 p.m. PST

Please choose the time that is most convenient for you.

Do you care for a family member with dementia and need creative ways to engage him/her in meaningful activities? This tele-workshop for family caregivers explains the goals and benefits of meaningful activities, gives suggestions for appropriate activities, and explains how to maximize the enjoyment for you and the person with dementia.

Anything for Alzheimers: You can do Anything for Alzheimer's including Zumba!

You can do Anything for Alzheimer's! Janet McLeish has organized a Zumba Alzheimer's Party with Motown Flavour on June 18 from 1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. at the False Creek Community Centre. Let's Zumba! You'll be singing, grooving, dancing and sweating with False Creek Zumba instructor, Janet McLeish and other guests from Zumba Vancouver. If you can't attend, please make a donation to support Janet's fundraising goal. All proceeds from the event support the Alzheimer Society of B.C. Scotiabank Vancouver Half Marathon & 5k: Get active with your family on Sunday, June 26 - Join the Scotiabank Vancouver Half Marathon & 5k

Walk for Alzheimer's: Investors Group Walk for Alzheimer's

Thank you to all honorees, participants, donors, sponsors and amazing volunteers! You helped raise over $780,000 province-wide for B.C. families living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias as part of the Investors Group Walk for Alzheimer's on May 1! Where would you like to see research on dementia? If you have an interest in or experience with dementia - including as someone living with it, a friend, family member, caregiver, or health and social care provider - this study wants your insights to help shape dementia research in Canada. Please share your knowledge and complete the questionnaire online.
